Some Teaching Philosophy
An important goal of music directed towards children is to nurture the desire in them to express themselves musically. There is no better way to teach this than by encouraging participation and role modeling. By instilling a love of singing in children we give them a source of joy which they can return to through out their lives.
Many people have argued that our adaptation to television media causes us to be passive participants in the use of art, such as music. I like to think that music directed towards children should encourage participation and educate us as a society to want to sing together more and there by strengthen our sense of community. I believe we are singing beings, much more like whales than we acknowledge. By encouraging the young to express themselves musically, we give them another tool for communication to better experience the diversity of human experience and the wondrous world we live in.
"Songs are a powerful form of communication, they spark the imagination to create imagery."
